Qualifications Required to Become an Airline Pilot in India
To become an airline pilot in India, candidates must meet specific educational, training, and certification requirements. Here are the key qualifications:
Educational Requirements
10+2 Education:
Candidates must have completed their higher secondary education (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, securing at least 60% marks from a recognized board to eligible for jobs in aviation sector. Bachelor's Degree (Optional): While not mandatory, pursuing a degree in aviation, engineering, or a related field can be beneficial.
Licenses and Certifications
- Student Pilot License (SPL): Enroll in a DGCA-approved flying school and obtain an SPL by passing a written exam, oral test, and medical examination.
- Private Pilot License (PPL): Accumulate a minimum of 40-60 hours of flight training, including solo and dual flights, and pass the required exams.
- Commercial Pilot License (CPL): Complete a minimum of 200 hours of flight training, pass theoretical exams, and obtain a Class 1 Medical Certificate from a DGCA-approved medical examiner.
- Instrument Rating (IR): Obtain an IR to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
- Multi-Engine Rating (MER): Obtain a MER to fly multi-engine aircraft.
